Ensembles and Forms

Component Organization of the Band Program

The Fighting Indians Band is the entire band program (woodwinds, brass, percussion, color guard, Fighting Indians Band Boosters). All students are members of the Fighting Indians Band.

Marching Band is comprised of all woodwind, brass, percussion, and color guard students in the Fighting Indians Band. Participation in the Marching Band is required of all students.

Symphony Band is the flagship concert band. Membership in the Symphony Band is open to students in grades 10 through 12 and is determined by a highly competitive audition. Students in this ensemble are capable of performing grade 5 and 6 literature and are the most serious and dedicated musicians in the Fighting Indians Band.

Philharmonic Band is a select concert band comprised of students in grades 9-12. Membership in the Philharmonic Band is determined by a highly competitive audition. Students in the Philharmonic Band are capable of playing grade 4 and 5 literature and are aspiring to one day perform as a member of the Symphony Band.

Symphonic Band is a concert band comprised of students in grades 9-12. The Symphonic Band performs grade 3 and 4 literature. Membership in the Symphonic Band is open to students who enjoy playing their instrument and value being a member of an organization.

Chamber Winds/Brass Ensemble is a highly select wind and brass ensemble with flexible instrumentation. Membership in the Chamber Winds/Brass Ensemble is appointed by the band directors and is comprised of students from the Symphony and Philharmonic Bands.

Percussion Ensemble is open to all Fighting Indians Band students who play percussion instruments. Personnel is determined by demands of the repertoire.

Wind Ensemble is an auxiliary group to the Symphonic Bands and is comprised of students from the Symphony and Philharmonic Bands. Personnel is appointed by the band directors. The Wind Ensemble has flexible instrumentation that is based on the demands of the repertoire.

Orchestra Winds perform as part of the Vero Beach High School Symphony Orchestra. Personnel for the Orchestra Winds is appointed by the director and is comprised of students in the Symphony and Philharmonic Bands. The instrumentation of the orchestra winds is determined by the demands of the repertoire.

Color Guard is the visual ensemble of the Fighting Indians Band. Membership is determined by a highly competitive audition. The Color Guard performs as part of the Marching Band in the fall and as the Indoor Guard during the winter and spring.

Jazz Band is the flag ship jazz band and is comprised of the most serious jazz students. Membership is comprised of students in grades 10 through 12 and is determined by a highly competitive audition.

Studio Jazz Band is an advanced level jazz band comprised of students in grades 10 through 12. Membership is determined by audition.

Stage & Lab Jazz Bands are comprised of students in grades 9 through 12. Membership is open to all students interested in jazz and who play a jazz instrument.
